~ About Ms. Gaines ~
I thought that you may be interested in knowing a little about the person you are entrusting with your gems!
My name is LaNedra Gaines and I am 30 years old. My birthday is March 26th. I am the only girl, and middle child, of three children. Currently, I am in my 7th year of teaching.
I graduated from Florida A&M University (B.S Elementary Education), American Intercontinental University (M.Ed Instructional Technology), and have recently earned my Ed.S in Curriculum/Instruction Management & Administration from Nova Southeastern University. My certification is in Elementary Education (K-6) and I have also achieved National Board Certification. Other than achieving this certification, my greatest honor was being voted Watkins' Teacher of the Year for the 2008-2009 school year.
The positions that I *currently hold/have previously held within Watkins include :
- * 3rd Grade Gifted/High Achievers Teacher
- * 3rd Grade Reading Teacher
- School Advisory Council (SAC) Secretary
- * South Area Elementary Curriculum Council Representative
- Watkins Sunshine Social Club Secretary
- * New Educator Support System (NESS) Liaison
- Faculty Council Secretary
During my six years at Watkins Elementary Magnet School, I've taught grades 1, 2 (gifted/high achiever), and 3 (gifted/high achiever). From the time I was in the 2nd grade, I knew I wanted to be a teacher! I was blessed to have an amazing 2nd grade teacher, and a few others along the way that influenced me. I hope to have this same impact on the students I come across...whether they are in my class or not. My students, past and present, will tell you that I am tough, but I expect the best from them and will do whatever I can to ensure that they are able to work at their best. I love my job with a passion and honestly cannot see myself in any other field.
I consider my students and you apart of my family. Should you have any questions or concerns throughout the school year, please do not hesitate to communicate them with me.
Have a fantastic year!
